FAQs

Your permanent jewelry questions answered!

General Information:

* What is permanent jewelry?

It is a custom-fitted piece of jewelry (commonly a bracelet, anklet, or necklace) that has it’s ends welded together instead of using a traditional clasp. This creates a continuous, low-maintenance accessory designed for everyday wear.

* Does it hurt?

No, the process is painless. We use a micro-welding device that creates a small flash of light ("zap") to join the metal ends, without ever touching your skin. A protective piece of leather is used to protect the skin during the process.

* Can I add a clasp if I do not want my jewelry permanent?
Yes! If you would like to create a custom piece of jewelry, but cannot have it on permanent due to work, health issues, etc. You can add a clasp to any chain for $5.

* How long does it last?

With proper care, your permanent jewelry can last for many years. However, it is fine jewelry and not indestructible; it can break if subjected to enough force or snagged on objects.

* What materials are used?

Common materials include 14k solid gold, gold-filled, and sterling silver. We use 14k gold/rose gold filled and sterling silver.

Maintenance & Removal:

* Can it be removed?

Yes. Despite its name, you can remove permanent jewelry by cutting the chain at the jump ring (the welded spot) with a pair of scissors or nail clippers.

* Can it be re-welded?

In most cases, yes, provided you save the chain and cut it at the proper spot. We offer re-welding services at a cost of $15.

*How do I care for it?

Permanent jewelry requires minimal maintenance, but you can clean it with warm water, mild soap, and a soft cloth or toothbrush to maintain its shine. Avoid prolonged exposure to harsh chemicals like chlorine, which can weaken the metal over time.

* What if it breaks?

If your piece breaks, save the chain and contact us. We offer free re-welds within 30 days if the break is at the weld point; otherwise, a repair fee of $15 may apply.

Health & Travel

* Can I go through airport security? Yes, fine jewelry typically does not need to be removed for TSA screening and usually won't set off metal detectors.

* What about MRIs or X-rays?

You may be asked by your doctor to remove your permanent jewelry for an MRI or certain X-rays. It's recommended to consult your doctor beforehand. If necessary, you can cut it off and have it re-welded by us later.

* Who should avoid permanent jewelry?

Those with pacemakers should not undergo the welding process.
